I walk by this every time I head to the L train, it’s a statue of Jerzy Popieluszko. He was a Catholic Priest who was murdered and later beatified. Twenty-nine years ago today his body was discovered on the bank of a river in Poland.

From Wikipedia:

A car accident was set up to kill Jerzy Popiełuszko on October 13, 1984, but he escaped it. The alternative plan was to kidnap him, and it was carried out on October 19, 1984. The priest was beaten and murdered by three Security Police officers. Then, his body was dumped into the Vistula Water Reservoir near Włocławek from where it was recovered on October 30, 1984.

Last weekend was the Brooklyn Invitational. Lots of folks wrapped in leather and bikes covered in chrome.

The folks that gather are equally as interesting as the bikes they ride in on, sometimes more so. For me the scene is what gets me out to an event like this.

All types and styles were represented. I saw a great XS650 bobber and a nice classic Indian in my favorite color, turquoise.

It’s always inspiring to see what other people are putting together. Motivates me to get out there and wrench on my old scoot.
